Dire Wolves Are Here!

The long-awaited and much anticipated release of the Dire Wolves is finally here!

These sleek new wolves have an aggressive new look and feature all new and improved furs and eyes while also introducing new teeth and tails.

With the introduction of the Dire Wolves a couple of things are happening. First, for the breeders out there, we have worked on the genetics to improve breed-ability. Second, we are adding role play functionality and a new HUD that will appeal to the role play enthusiast. These changes will apply to all WK Wild Dogs so existing wolves will need to be updated.

Also, we have changed the way generations work when breeding different species of wolves. All wolves can still be bred with any other species of wolf. However, with this introduction generations are now tied to species. What that means is that putting a generation 20 Gray wolf with a generation 10 Timber wolf will get you either a generation 21 Gray wolf or a generation 11 Timber wolf. You can not get a generation 16 Timber or Gray wolf as you could in the past. Breeding between species is a great way to get traits into different species but it does nothing to help you skip generations and advance quickly.

With the new Dire Wolf and the changes introduced with it we have created a truly unique breedable that will appeal to both the breeder and the role play enthusiast alike. Don’t miss this opportunity to get in on the ground floor of this great new addition to the WK Wild Dogs.

Wolf Rarity Gets Updated

As part of our efforts to improve the breed-ability of the wolves we have instituted major changes to the rarity calculator.

Going forward the rarity calculator numbers will be less arbitrary and much more based on actual rarities. More emphasis will be placed on traits like fur, ears, eyes, tail, teeth, scale and tongue and less emphasis on legs.

In the past, legs were always 3 points each and in some cases accounted for 1/3 of any wolf’s rarities. This is no longer the case and legs will only be worth 0 points or 1 point if they are truly rare. At the same time the traits listed above will likely go up in value. Personality is no longer shown on the rarity calculator and no points are awarded for it, but it will show on the Ancestry page and on the inworld stats. Tail shape takes it’s place on the rarity calculator which offers much more opportunity for a truly rare trait and points will show accordingly.

A brief test of the rarity calculator showed increases of 2-9 rarity points despite the points given up on legs and personality.

What this will do for the breeder is reward them for truly rare traits they get in their wolves and give much more variation in the rarity point value of the wolves. It also gives a breeder more incentive to pursue a rarer trait whatever trait that happens to be.

Please be aware that by basing the rarity calculator on the real rarity of the traits that the rarity point value of a wolf can and likely will change slightly over time.

NOT a Change ….

We recently added a new “Ancestry” page to the WK 101 Class on the blog and we need to clear up some confusion.

This is NOT a change to the way in which traits pass. Rather, this is how traits have always passed. The purpose of the post was to address misinformation already out there in the breeding community not to suggest anything has changed. Nothing has changed. The Big Cats and Wild Dogs work the same today as they have since they were introduced regards to their parents.

What has a chance of passing into any animal is what you can get from the animal itself (“Stats” button on its menu) or its parents (“Parents” button on its menu). Some other traits can and will show up as random drops as you level up or level down. Traits further back in an animals ancestry have no chance of passing.

Added another Image

There seems to be still some confusion over Ancestry.

Hoping this image clears it up for all. This image shows you how previous bottom rows get displayed on the ancestry page of the resulting baby.

The resulting baby is in green the pink v is MOM and the blue v is Dad

Dire Wolfs

We know many of you are anxious for news on the dire wolves so we thought we would take a moment to update you on our progress.

Beta is still on-going but winding down. We had a lot to work to do during the beta so it’s gone on longer than most anticipated.

We have worked very hard to improve the breed-ability of the wolves and we believe changes to the genetics along with improvements to the rarity calculator will help accomplish this.

Additionally, we wanted to add role-play functionality to the wolves and we want this to be right so it’s taken a bit longer than expected but we think the role-play enthusiast will be quite pleased with the results.

At the end of the day, it was our goal to make something that would appeal to both the breeder and the role-play community. We believe we are accomplishing that and all of you will soon see the results of all the hard work and all of your patience will be rewarded.
